I woke up to more snow this morning and I cannot decide whether that makes me happy or sad.  A part of me wants to take advantage of the powder and get in some skiing this weekend with my husband.  Then there is the other half of me that is just tired of the cold and it getting dark so dang early.

The other day we were talking about going to the grocery store that evening, then it started to get dark and cold and without knowing the time I told my husband it was way too late and we should just go the next day.  Yeah, it was 6:00 p.m.  How sad is that?  I then felt pathetic and soooo old so I made myself get over how "late" it was and headed out to the grocery store.  However, once we arrived at the store I pulled out a grocery list from a couple weeks ago not realizing my mistake until we were half way through the store.  So, yep, you guessed it...  we had to go back to start and pick up missed items and put back others.  According to my husband shopping with a pregnant woman is interesting.  Thank god for his patience.  I always thought pregnancy brain was just a myth, but I am here to tell you that it is in fact a real thing.

I guess I am hoping that warmer weather and the time change will at least help me not feel like such an old lady.  If my brain is gone then I at least want to feel my age.  For now I will embrace the good that comes from this time of year, like snow and pumpkin!  I feel like my time to make pumpkin recipes is starting to run out, if it hasn't already.  There is something about snowy days makes me crave pumpkin.  So while there is still snow there will still be pumpkin recipes!  

This smoothie is a reflection of my conflicting feelings on whether I want spring or winter.  It combines the wintery flavor of pumpkin with the spring/summer flavor of the mango.  Not only that but the texture is pretty awesome.  It is thick and creamy, so it is best enjoyed with a straw.

Pumpkin and Mango Smoothie

serves: 1-2 {makes 2 8oz. servings or 1 16oz. serving}


1/2 frozen banana

3/4 c frozen mango

1/2 c canned pumpkin

1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice

1/2 scoop vanilla protein

1/2-1 tsp honey or maple syrup

1 c almond milk 



1. Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
